Affordable housing?
Q. i always see all these black ppl on tv bitching about how they dont get affordable housing (projects) in manhattan and how harlem or other "black neighborhoods" are becoming more and more upscale and they cant afford living there anymore. and it really annoys me that they think they have the right to live somewhere for like a fraction of the cost it actually costs to live there just bec they are black and poor and whatever. i cant afford to live in manhattan and so cant many other people or they have to pay like $1000 a month to live in some hole in the wall. i think projects should be built in "remote" areas that are basically cheap to live in and have little demand for them, and that supply and demand should regulate the prices of houses… [cont.]

How do i get affordable housing (rent or buy) with bad credit and no income?
Q. My husband and I are about to get kicked out of my moms house (she hates us and our 2 kids). Well, we are living on one income (we pay our own bills, she pays none of our bills) and have bad credit. We are looking for some affordable housing that is decent to live in but we cant afford any houses around here. Any suggestions? I have a BS and my husband has Associates degree and he is an Asst. Manager at lumber/hardware store. Where we live, they do not pay well and if I get a job, it will just pay for daycare but I cant stay home (which I am doing right now). So there is no win win.

A. since i don't know where u live i can't help with the housing advice but it you want to increase ur income depending on ur degree, u might find a job that allows u to keep ur child with you say in a day care center or some place with a similar informal environment where there aren't strict regulations abt u bringing ur child along and it's upto the dicretion of ur employee(u might explain ur situation to them) or even better u can take up a job that allows u to work from home sth via the telephone( as a real estate broker if you have good communication skills ) or online maybe. but beware of scams !! good luck !!

Can I buy a house if I own an affordable housing unit in nj?
Q. I bought a condo a year ago, it's an affordable moderate income unit. My income is much better now, and I want to buy a house at the regular market price. I know that I can't sell my condo for two more years, but I don't know if I can buy another house.

A. You need to to do a couple of things: 1. Read over the affordable housing rules and regulations for your development and/or town, 2. Get in touch with the housing office of the town. This is very important because it is likely that you are not allowed to rent out your aflfordable unit (the units in my town are required to be owner-occupied.) Sometimes there is a clause in the regulations that allows for rental in extenuating circumstances (i.e. like if your job temporarily relocates.) I'm not sure why you would have to wait for two more years. Usually, the town maintains a waitlist of buyers for affordable housing, so you should have a buyer lined up. If you have enough income and capital to buy another house without selling your… [cont.]

How do you find affordable non-Section 8 (ghetto) housing in DC?
Q. I know many places have "affordable housing" set aside for people who low/moderate incomes in 'regular' apartment complexes. How can you get a list of these without calling every complex in MD/DC/VA? The HUD site is very outdated (typical governement). Half the places I called either don't exist, are no longer managed by the company given, or had their number changed! And many of them are in very poor areas where it's unsafe. What is someone who doesn't have a lot of money but isn't making only 16,000/year supposed to do in the DC area??? I don't need to live on Kalorama, but I dont want to get shot at either.

Claim parents as dependents and affordable housing?
Q. My tax advisor said I can claim my parents as dependents since I support over 50% of their living. They also won't be filing any taxes since their only income is social security. My question is do they need to tell their landlord that they depend on me? They live in a rented apartment offered by affordable housing and I fear if they report this their rent will increase or worse, no longer qualify for affordable housing.

A. I don't think it matters where their rent money is coming from, as long as its getting paid. Why would the landlord care?

Q. what is the difference between affordable housing and supportive housing?
Asked by sadealz - Thu Oct 5 20:21:41 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Supported housing is where a person will live by him or herself, but will require help with basic household chores-cleaning,cooking, shopping. Affordable housing is just that-rent or mortgage payments that are below the national norm and can fit into a low income budget.

A. You can start with the City Planning and Zoning office. They are the ones who oversee "blight". Then the County Health Department. Then the State Dept of Real Estate. Then the Attorney General if you think the landlord has broken the law. The AG acts as your attorney when you have been wronged.

A. This question has gone four days without an answer. The fact of the matter is that there is new residential construction all over the greater Atlanta area. The area is huge. The problem is, what do you consider "affordable" and are you looking for a development that caters to "seniors"? Best advice is to make good use of the services of a qualified and experienced real estate agent in the Atlanta area. I'm betting that you know someone in the area you now live in that makes their living in the real estate business. Ask them for a referral for an Atlanta real estate company. This is done all of the time since many real estate companies are networked nationwide. Keep in mind that the seller of the Atlanta property you plan to buy… [cont.]
