What are the steps to getting an agent for your screenplay?
Q. Ok, so I wrote a screenplay, so how do I get an agent, what websites do I go to, to look for an agent? And what happens then? Do I send the agent a query letter like I would a book agent? How do I approach the screenwriting agent about a script I have? Someone help! Is there a website I can go to that can tell me all the steps on how to go about writing a query letter or approaching a screenwriting agent on a script that I have?

A. I have to be honest, getting an agent is very difficult. Even the pros in Hollywood are constantly trying to sell their work and many, secure an agent. Screenwriting and literary agents are two distinctly different things, and the business works much differently. Agents usually acquire their clients through referrals, and in all honesty you need to learn proper form for writing treatments if you ever hope to get anywhere, and probably go to screenwriting classes. This is not for the faint of heart as no studio will even bother to look at your work, as they have stables full of writers, many of whom are not working continuously. You can send an agent your screenplay (there are lists of them on the Web and in other publications) but don' [cont.]

How does one become an Independent Agent if the life insurance and annuity business?
Q. Meaning, If you are first starting out in the insurance business(no history), how do you get the commission level of the independent agents? Do you just have to sell a certain amount of insurance or annuities, like 1 million worth, then you are pushed to the independent agent status, or is it that you have to have umpteen years of experience selling a certian amount of insurance before they would consider you for the indepedent agent status. Also, I heard that there were these companies, like FSD Financial Services, they let normal agents sign up and I guess if you go throught them (which seems like a middle man between them and the actual insurance companies) you can get the independent agent status and commission levels right away.… [cont.]

A. In order to sell life insurance, you would need a life license. In order to sell annuities, you would need a life license and a securities license. I'm not sure how the commission structure work for all insurance companies, but I believe you do need to put in a certain amount of premiums in a month in order to upgrade your sales level. Well, that's what I was told when I was interviewed by several insurance and financial companies. When a company markets other companies products, this is called an agreement. Let's say you work for company ABC and they have an agreement with XYZ to sell XYZ's annuity products. If you sell XYZ's products, XYZ will pay ABC a certain amount of commissions and then ABC will pay you for selling it.

A. H&R Block used to offer a course, not sure if they still do. If you worked for them in any capacity the course was free (you paid for the book only). However, the BEST way to study is to review prior exams & answers which you can get at the following ("view and download"):
