Apartments?
Q. I wasn't sure where to post this...there doesn't seem to be any place for asking about homes. Long story short, the family and I aren't happy in our apartment complex...one problem after another, and we're ready to move after only six months of being here. What I'm looking for are some nice apartment complexes in the north atlanta suburbs (particularly Alpharetta and Roswell, but am willing to go as far south as Dunwoody). I am perfectly capable of going online to find an apartment, but doing that will probably land me in the same situation I'm in now... ALL apartments look lovely in pictures and when you go visit a model. What leasing agent in his or her right might would tell you, "Yeah, this place is nice, but the people downstairs… [cont.]

A. I don't live there, but try this. It can't guarantee that some bad ones weren't just mad and tried to get even by posting bad things, but it might help if some have mostly really good ratings.

What department of government oversees living conditions in apartments?
Q. We just moved out of an apartment after buying our first house and now the apartment owner is trying to get us to replace things in the apartment that were old and disgusting when we moved in such as the carpet. What I need to know is what branch of government oversees the living conditions of apartments and such so that I can report them for mold and water in the AC and under the flooring, as well as electrical issues, etc. We really can't afford the $4000 they are trying to charge us for things that were pre-existing when we moved in.

I need to install electric heat in apartments, any suggestions?
Q. There are two one bedroom apartments and one three bedroom apartment. If I put electric heat in the apartments, the tenant pays. I would like to install baseboard or some other electric heat.
Asked by MakerOwnerCreamFatherGOD - Thu Jul 10 00:49:03 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Baseboard heaters would be fine, but you will need to see if you have spaces to add them in each power panel. If this is a duplex have have someone check if it can carry the extra load. Each one should be 240 volts. There would need to be at least 2 or 3 per apartment.

How can I minimize smells coming into my apartment from neighbors' apartments?
Q. I live in an apartment. Besides turning off the air/heat or shutting the vents, how can I avoid the smell of food an cigarettes from other people's apartments coming into mine?
Asked by Rastus - Mon Jan 15 10:00:54 2007 - - 14 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Follow John T's advice, the other answers are all lame. This is a serious situation that needs to be corrected. Call the manager and tell them you cannot live with cig smoke in your apt. they can install a mechanism in your vent that will block from the other apts. But like John said, it's a design flaw that is not proper building specs. Ultimately you can take it up with the building dept. but that can get really nasty so go easy with this approach. Or if you do, have a back up apt to move to!!

What breeds are usually not allowed in apartments?
Q. What breeds are usually not allowed in apartments? I want to get a dog, but I know that I'll be moving into an apartment in a few years and I want to make sure I'll be able to take my pet.
Asked by Emily - Sun Dec 21 22:02:41 2008 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It all depends on what rules the apartments have. Some will have no pets policy, some may only allow birds. Or cats. Some have weight limits, some have breed restrictions. When it is time for you to move in a few years you will just have to start researching your options in advance.

What is the catch on those beautiful apartments advertised on Craig's list for such low price?

A. Most of them are scams, there is no apartment. Some "I am out of the country, please pay deposit for key to view" BS. Orr, as otherwise suggested, that is your portion of the rent, rent for a 4 bedroom will be closer to 5k a month.

What are some great apartments for young professionals in Dallas?
Q. I'm a young professional moving for work. I love to meet new people and I'm very social - I've never been to Dallas and I'm looking for a safe place and somewhere that is full of night life. I heard Uptown and Addison are good. Any good suggestions for areas and apartments to check out? Thanks!

A. The average age of Addison residents is significantly younger than the average age of the Texas population. these apartments are considered nice and have good ratings. A lot of upwardly mobile professionals live there. Post Addison Circle (Beautiful Loft Style Apartments) * In the evening people are out jogging, riding bikes and walking their dogs. There are restaurants and shops within the community. You might find "The Young Urban Professional" blog interesting. The author lives in Addison, TX. I enjoy reading it.

What to charge for cleaning apartments after tenants leave?
Q. What would you charge for a one bedroom detailed cleaning (plus carpet cleaning)? What about a two bedroom? I am thinking of starting my own cleaning business focused mainly on cleaning vacant apartments and I need an idea of what to charge. I live in Nashville, TN and would love some advice from anyone in the cleaning business.
Asked by dwayne4emily - Sun Mar 8 20:44:17 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Prices vary pending on location. So what to charge? I suggest calling other local cleaning services in your area and tell them you want to get a one bedroom detailed cleaning. Ask them for an estimate. Contact several vendors to get different quotes. Then determine the average price and use that as your starting point for what you will charge for your own clients. Good luck.

When should I start viewing apartments if I want to move in at the end of June?
Q. Me and my boyfriend are moving in together at the end of June, but we are unsure when to start looking round apartments. Can anyone give any advice?
Asked by Felix - Sat Dec 19 08:11:23 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Hi, as a landlord, I can accept potential tenants having to give a months notice in their current place - but in reality I don't want my place standing empty for any length of time. If someone came to me in March and said, we'll move in at the end of June, I wouldn't want to keep the place available that long. I'd say, middle of May at the absolute earliest, unless you can be flexible and bring forward your start date for the 'right' property.

A. You may also want to look into private party rentals. I know someone with a rental property in that area who may be willing to give you a shot with a large downpayment, lots of rules, and at least $1500/month rent. Remember, a lot of it comes down to $$$ and first impression. If he owns up to the errors of his ways upfront and offers a ton of money to a private owner, he's more likely to get approved. If he shows up with prison tats, a pit bull on a chain, a bad attitude, and a "you owe me this" attitude, no one is going to take the chance.

Mother-in-law's tongue, aloe, peace lily, cacti, philodendrons, and pretty much anything as long as you do your homework. but this time of year getting one won't do you any good. It's really only poinsettias, christmas cacti, and indoor winter bulbs... you can order online though.

How do you make apartments on The Sims 2 AL?

Asked by Emmy - Thu Sep 11 13:21:49 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It's done through cheats. Basically you go to a lot of your choice and build an apartment. Make sure each apartment has the appropriate doors. (look in the doors section for the doors with the mats). (this allow the game to tell the difference between an apartment and a room) after building the apartment type in the cheat box (ctrl+shift+C): changelotzoning apartmentbase then exit to neighborhood. Then afterward reenter the apartment with a family of your choice. I hope this helps.

What is the best way to start off buying and renting apartments?
Q. I want to rent out apartments. Not slums. How do you find the right area? Do you build new. Is it profitable. What do you watch out for. Is it easier to buy a single family and turn it into an apartment. I'm an electrician and could do alot of work myself.

A. What is your definition of a slum. This might be the area in which you might want to start. You would want to learn about financing, owner selling and financing, bank REO properties The best way to get started is to find a 4 plex in your area, secure a FHA mortgage loan. If there are tenants in the property presently, that would be ok, but you should move into one. With you moving into one would make this an owner occupied property, thus getting the same interest rate as a person purchasing a single family home. There are several things you need to know when investing in real estate or buying foreclosures, probates and other distressed properties for flipping. First of all you should go to the nearest book store, purchase several… [cont.]

How can I find out who owns or what realty manages apartments?
Q. I am trying to find out the realty company or owners of an apartment complex here in Sacramento,CA. How can I do that? I looked on the internet for the Hampton Bay Apartments. Only the managers listing is there. Help
Asked by annette5000 - Tue Aug 7 02:19:37 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Here are sources for you: - Some counties put the ownership info online. Go the county assessor's website. - go to the city or county assessor's office - ask a real estate agent to look it up. We subscribe to computer services that provide that information to us. - ask a title/escrow company to look it up. They subscribe to the same services. - ask the management company.
